Job Description

Central Square Theater (CST) is seeking an experienced props artisan for our 21-22 season. This person will serve as the props artisan for three of the four shows in CST’s season. The candidate should have experience both building and sourcing (hand props and furniture), and will have full access to our local props co-op from which to source. We are seeking a candidate who is both creative and practical as a designer, and must have strong collaboration skills. They may be asked to create contemporary, historical, and/or fantastical props depending on each show’s individual needs. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build or source all props needed for three CST productions
  • Provide rehearsal props for all rehearsals, as requested by the director/stage manager.
  • Attend all production meetings, and technical/dress rehearsals
  • Work collaboratively with each show’s scenic designer to create designs for furniture and set dressings
  • Availability throughout the run of the show to replace or repair broken/damaged props

Knowledge and Essential Skills

A successful candidate for this position will be someone who embraces challenges, finds solutions, sets high expectations and discipline for their own performance, focuses on successful outcomes, and promotes teamwork. More specifically, they should possess the following qualities:

  • Skills related to fabrication of props such as: woodworking, sewing, sculpting, painting, model-building, photoshop, etc;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with a positive attitude; 
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills required; 
  • Creativity and resourcefulness required; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with production team members across departments;
  • Access to a vehicle for transportation of props is a plus, but not required.

Compensation

$1000/show, $3000 total
