Literary/Dramaturgical Internship

The Nora Theatre Company seeks an intern to work closely with the Artistic Director to identify work that is of interest to the theatre and engage in dramaturgical conversation.

Responsibilities include reading and evaluating scripts, attend readings and productions, scouting for emerging writers, and writing coverage reports; researching and providing dramaturgical support for current and upcoming seasons; maintaining the script database, managing and corresponding with readers’ groups, and occasionally corresponding with artists and agents. Literary interns also contribute to the website, attend staff meetings; and provide administrative support as needed.

The internship is open to current college and graduate students, and recent graduates. Applicants should have a sense of The Nora’s aesthetic, a strong writing background, and an interest in literary management or producing. Candidates who are contacted for an interview may be asked to submit a writing sample.

Note about the writing sample for the literary professional internship:
The writing sample should be 2-3 pages, but may be a combination of several shorter pieces that exhibit different sides of an applicant’s voice. The best writing samples for this purpose should be written in the context of a theatrical production, perhaps in the form of a program note, a play review, a script report, or, in the absence of those, an academic paper that references a play or musical; it should not be written in the first person. The writing sample should show a strong voice, an ability to integrate quotations from primary sources, and a point of view on theatre.
