Saturday Symposium: “Talking to Children About Social Injustice”

As Tony Kushner wrote, considering how to approach his adaptation of Brundibar and the creation of But The Giraffe, “In a pitiless world, how is one to speak to the young? How much is one to tell a child of the injustices and dangers he or she will confront, perhaps have to confront, long before adulthood?”
Special guests: Acclaimed authors of books for children and young adults, Gregory Maguire (Wicked) and Kathryn Lasky (Guardians of Ga’hoole).

Post performance Conversation with Ela Weissberger

Special Guest: Ela Weissberger was 11 years old when she and her family boarded the train for Terezin. There, as a child, she played the Cat in Brundibar; now, as an adult, she generously devotes herself to keeping alive the history of Terezin. After the performance, she will speak about her experiences and answer questions.
