A labyrinthine romp through Victorian literature, Penny is Charles Dickens’ “lost” epic as mounted by a short-staffed theatre troupe with Royal Shakespeare Company aspirations. It is a gender-bending tale of true love thwarted, deception, abduction, and true love regained.
