Youth Underground Arts and Science Fellowship

Are you a curious and creative young person living in Cambridge? Join us for a unique opportunity to engage with theater, science, and social justice.

The Youth Underground Arts and Science Fellowship offers Cambridge teens and young adults (ages 14-20) who have not started college a paid opportunity to explore a thought-provoking play, engage in interactive workshops, and organize a community event. The program is rooted in the goals of Central Square Theater’s Youth Underground program – youth development, community engagement, and social change – and expands to incorporate science exploration, in conjunction with CST’s Catalyst Collaborative@MIT (CC@MIT) program.

Meetings will be on Sunday afternoons from February to April 2026, where a cohort of six Fellows will:

  • Dive deep into theater: Explore one of CST’s science plays, Breaking the Code, and uncover its themes and messages.
  • Collaborate with peers: Engage in thematic workshops with a mentor and peers.
  • Investigate and research: Explore the scientific and social justice issues presented in the play.
  • Create a public event: Work together to organize a public event that engages the community and connects with a Mainstage performance.

The YU Arts and Science Fellowship application will open later this fall. Complete the interest form now to be notified when the application is available.
