How do you evaluate someone’s worth? Wealth? The color of their skin? Education? Class? Goodness? Beauty? In the near future people are evaluated by their blood test “Rating”, which screens for genetic markers – dictating everything from bank loans to dating prospects. In Ella Road’s The Phlebotomist, Bea, a phlebotomist, her partner, Aaron, and best friend Char find the slope from an ounce of prevention to sanctioned ostracism and sterilization dangerously slippery.
